Official: Barragán Signs For Valencia

By
Updated: August 30, 2011

Valencia have completed the signing of the Valladolid right back, who will take the place left by Miguel.

Antonio Barragán, has become a Valencia player after completing his move from Real Valladolid.

Braulio Vázquez stated that, “we have been following him since he joined Valladolid and we are convinced that he is ready to make the leap up to a team like Valencia.  Antonio has great qualities, such as his strength, and he has great experience despite his youth.  He has shown his quality ever since he started playing at the top level five seasons ago, and he has a great margin of improvement.”

Barragán is 24 years old and moved from Sevilla’s academy to Liverpool to join up with Rafa Benítez.  Due to a lack of playing opportunities, he returned to his native La Coruña to play for Deportivo.

He will do his medical this afternoon.

dosnt feel like a step forward from miguel, more like backwards.

    • Fadi

I think he has many things to prove for himself, and for the public, especially after the drop from Liverpool down to Valladolid (indirectly). That’s why he’s expected to give all what he has, and prove he’s of Valencia’s size and value. At least let’s hope so at the time being.

  • Ximo

At least he won’t harm the image of the club, like Miguel has done on various occasions.

I’m not going to comment until I see him playing.  Stupid to write a player off without knowing anything about him.

    • Jiwonsi

Antonio Barragán= the new Curro Torres. A bog-standard whose only good points are that 1) he is cheap 2) he is not a gun collector like Miguel.

  • cf

    oh..no!!!!i don’t want him…

  • Cile

Well he was signed for Liverpool by Benitez so he mustn’t be that bad. Still though I’m not entirely convinced though I hope I’m wrong. I’d still try to sign Mallo and loan him back or negotiate with Beck for next year.

    • moe

benitez record of signing players stinks

      • Ximo

That’s a myth.  You pay too much attention to the English media.

      • Cile

Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso, Luis Garcia, Fabio Aurelio (until he was injured), Pepe Reina, Arbeloa,… These guys I believe would walk into the current VCF line-up (ok, Aurelio would return). He’s had his fair share of bad transfer but you’re an idiot if you doubt these trasnfers. He is a good manager and actually has a decent record but you’ve got to either have huge financial backing or be something crazy to beat Sir Alex Ferguson in EPL.

        • moe

salva, xisco, j.lopez, oliveira, de los santos, garrido and another left winger i dont remember the name of

        • Ximo

Benítez wasn’t in charge of transfers at Valencia.  The reason he left was because he didn’t have any control over who was signed!

          • Jiwonsi

Um, Ximo, the real reason Benitez left was that Liverpool are a bigger club than Valencia, and could offer him a better contract. The other story is just to cover his ass.

  • VCF

Kinda Agree with Ximo. I mean who thought Guaita would become our first keeper last season but look at him now.

And look at Feghouli now. I’m just saying he might surprise sure he is from segunda but that doesn’t mean we should judge him from the division he plays in.

  • mohanad

Did miguel leave the club already?

    • Elibasic

I don’t really understand the vcf staff. A couple of months ago they said that they want to keep Miguel because of what he has done for the club and now they say only “vete ya”? I can understand if they want Miguel to leave, he has problably the higher wage but at the moment he is also our best RB…

      • Ximo

Local media reported that Miguel was thrown out of a disco on Sunday night.

        • Elibasic

Okay thanks, that would explain everything!

        • Jose

Miguel is too old to be clubbing grow up dude

          • Jose

To get thrown out the club

  • Dizzy

I remember he used to reach ~90 OVR on Fifa 09

  • Nikche

    From Valencia official website:
Antonio Barragán, nuevo jugador del Valencia Club de Fútbol

  • roy

it doesnt matter if he will turn up to be good the fact is we sold a lot and we have money to bring a more classy rb. not a gamble, we play champions leauge i wanted someone who i knew for sure hes good.

  • lee

cuz benitez signed barragan he must be good, an benitez record of signings isnt great, dont bother mentioning torres etc,he was already class as was alonso so it hardly takes a genious to spot them

  • Fadi

I guess it’s time to offload either Miguel or Bruno, while we should keep Maduro to cover for Topal. Albelda won’t be able to be up to it anymore.

  • mohanad

Any videos of this guy we can watch?

  • VCF

Buying a class player for the cash we have isn’t a safe card either remember we have done that  before aswell

di viao for example how did that end up? hugo viana? now we paid 1,8 for him and 8 for ruiz that means we saved 20£ and our economy is the most important at the matter

so give this kid a chance!

    • Cile

You forgot a class full-back who’s had mega success at Valencia: Asier Del Horno.

  • Santiago

Unfortunately, with all the hype put up for gonul and mallo, barragan was slightly disappointing.  I think we should start supporting this guy!

…but we should keep trying for one next year (Beck, Azpilicueta, Mallo)

  • Netopir

One of Beck, Azpilicueta or Mallo will be on agenda for next year for sure. On the other hand, we must give Barragan a chance. He was a big prospect a few years ago, playing for young national teams but got a bit lost later. Who knows, maybe he can have a breaktrough season with us…

    • Jiwonsi

Don’t forget Montoya! Valencia will probbly make another effort to get him from Barcelona next season.

Barrangán score. fast forward 53 seconds into the clip.

  • Chris

Hey, a couple of friends of mine ( one lives in spain, the other in england ) have started up an English Language website about Spanish football, its only just started, so theres not many stories YET, but it looks interesting and is different to what you might find elsewhere, the latest story concerns our very own Roberto Soldado, give it a look! http://siemprefootball.com/

    • Jafar

Chris I honestly find it cool how your promote that site where else have you send it?

      • Chris

LL4C, thats the only other valencia place i use really :D

  • Jonas

Even though we lost Mata and Joaquin, I think this must have been the best transfer-window in many many years. The squad looks really good and I have a great feeling for the upcoming season! So please dont let me down Valencia. What I think is the key to success is that the players have faith in Emery and everyone is proud to play and representent Valencia CF!

    Amunt!

  • B.G

I’m sure we’re buying Mallo as well, and loaning him out to Celta for this season :) Sneaky sneaky Manu Llorente :D

    • Jafar

I would love that but I would rather give Joel a chance when Bruno leave and maybe this season as well.

  • http://vcfcentral.com Omar Al-Taie

I’m sure Valencia will work to sign Beck for next season for free as Bruno’s contract will expire if I’m not mistaken

  • Torso2

In fact I have a good feeling about this deal. Barragan was very promising full back when he came to La Liga but couldnt quite live up to expectations. He still got huge potential and I believe Unai Emery if someone can get the best out of him. Very interesting and good deal! Young spanish player who will surely break into national team sooner than later ;)

  • Raul

Barragan was a forgotten player. When he left Liverpool, nobody have seen him play. I didn’t know that he was playing at Valladolid and I see a lot of partidos. I think this is a panic action, that’s what they say in Dutch when you buy suddenly and fast a player, like Wenger does at Arsenal. But matbe he did developed in to a good rightback but I have my doubts.
I was so delighted about Gonul, but he won’t come. All the good players of Fenerbahce are leaving or already left the club. Look at Lugano, we missed the great oppertunity to buy him but he signed for PSG. PSG has the money and the players so the dicision was a quick one. My point is If you want a good right back take Gonul!!

    • Jafar

They wanted 9M and we couldn’t afford that plus they say he wants to stay.

  • Rezaur
  • Jon

As long as he is wearing the shirt he will get my full support.

    AMUNT BARRAGAN
