KRC Genk 0-0 Valencia CF

Disappointing draw for Valencia in Belgium, as they dominated they game but were unable to put the ball in the net.

It was a highly disappointing night for a strong Valencia side as they were unable get the all important goal against their Belgium opposition at the Cristal Arena.

The best chance perhaps came in the first half as Piatti broke into the box, but surprisingly squared the ball to Soldado who was caught off guard.

In the second half, Adil Rami came within inches of scoring with a spectacular overhead kick which crashed off the crossbar.

Diego Alves made a couple of excellent saves, but for the most part, Valencia were untroubled by Genk, as Rami and Ruiz complemeted each other very well once again as the Spanish side secured another clean sheet.

Dani Parejo had a good second half on his debut as a Valencia player, and was very unlucky not to score.

    ….but Rami’s shot was amazing :D

Went to the game, was very fun to see Valencia play a Champions League-match in my hometown. But they were bad. They just seemed like they didn’t really care. They taught from the beginning they already won. Mathieu and Miguel were not good. Feghouli was horrible. Piatti played decent. Banega and Parejo were good imo, especially Banega.
Really dissapointing game, certainly because I know how big the difference between Genk and Valencia is. if we play on full strenght with the right motivation, we should have won this easily.
The overhead kick from Rami was amazing btw :)

Forgot to say that I stayed fifteen minutes after the last whistle, and Emery punished the team. A punishment training. They had to run around the pitch.

      • Ximo

That’s just the warm down, not punishment, hehe.

Awesome that you went, dude. Sounds like you had a good time. Just a pity we couldnt win!

Do you have any photos etc. to show on the forum? Rreally cool that you met all of the players.

Its time to move on and forget the disappointment of last nights result and focus on Sat against Sporting.
Its a game we should have won and I am surprised we didnt

  • Jon

Brilliant that you went to the game Giel and great shot of you and Adil Rami

    • Giel

Thanks Jon! It was a great experience! :)

  • Valencianista

our defence with ruiz and rami looks very solid.

and this match is like jon said just to move on.

focus on sporting and later on we take on chelsea at mestalla and get our 3 points then this game is forgotten. this was just one game

we now got 2 matches without letting a goal through when did that happen last time?!?!

Ahhh what a sweet picture haha. Giel: How big was Rami in real?
The game: I saw some great position play in the first half.. I didn’t like Feghouli, Mathieu and Miguel.. Piatti played good, I like that litlle one playing.. The second half was less better but we dominated the whole game.. Banega was great and for me man of the match but everything sounded better when we won.. Like everyone, I was surprised we didn’t..

    • Giel

Thanks! Rami was slightly bigger then me. He is 1.90 metres, I’m 1.89 metres :) Funny thing, after we took this picture Pablo Piatti came by and he was laughing because he was so small compared to us hehe :) Rami is very friendly!

  • Adil

What do you guys think of how Banega controlled the ball in the end preventing a goal kick? I still think he should start over Costa

  • Raul

I don’t know.. Yesterday we played against Genk, against a top team, Banega could be a risk.. I saw a lot of games of Banega and I also can remember the egocentric play and lot of ball losses.. He just has a not so good side but on the other side, he can be fantastic, like yesterday..

I hope he will not join other great teams, pls stay at Valencia ever
