Mathieu has played a game that will increase his chances of playing in Euro 2012.

Mathieu received the opportunity to start for France’s first team for the first time in his career against the United States. Despite being called up to play for the national team last month, Mathieu had to wait until last night to feature in his international debut.

Mathieu played part of the back four of France which also featured Valencia defender Adil Rami, both played for 90 minutes. Mathieu showed a strong offensive preformance despite a nervous start to his debut and combined well with Frank Ribery down the flank.

Blanc commented on Mathieu’s preformance saying: “The new players were good, they did what was expected. Especially Mathieu on the left siade.”
