VCF Fan Zone: Best Player In 2011

Who’s been your favorite ?

As we approach the end of 2011, a year which could prove to be the beginning a bridge to success for Valencia, VCF Central are switching the microphone to you, the fans of this great club. Who do you think should be the best player of the season? Here are VCF Central’s candidates:

Éver Banega:

The 23 year old midfielder has proved to be key part of Emery’s short passing game. He seems to the artist in every Valencia movement in attack. The Argentine has had several key moments with Valencia during the past year including an impressive first half of the year which earned him a place in the starting 11 of the national squad and call up to last summers Copa America. During the second half of the year Banega’s participation has been restricted to just 15 games in all competitions with Valencia where he managed to get one assist and a goal in the team’s last game against Cadiz.

Tino Costa:

No doubt one of Valencia’s best players in the first half of the year if not the best. Since joining the club in the summer of 2010 the player has scored a lot of beautiful goals that will be remembered by Valencia fans. Probably his best goals in 2011 are against Real Sociedad and Levante which saw him that there aren’t many better free kick takers in the world than him. Tino Costa however has had a tougher season this season, spending most of the preseason on the sideline which limited the games he played in. He did however, managed 10 appearances in which he managed a goal and 3 assists.

Roberto Soldado:

Since joining Valencia in 2010 to replace David Villa’s who departed to Barcelona that summer, Soldado didn’t really have a huge impact to the team. But it was in 2011 in which he proved that he’s one of the most lethal strikers in the continent. The player has managed to score 32 goals throughout the year including 2 hattrikcs and one super hattrick (4 goals). Also, Soldado managed to bag in 10 goals in 6 games between the 2nd of April and the 7th of May. Soldado is yet to feature with Spanish national team as a Valencia player, but in the current form he’s in this is something that is expected to happen in the near future.

Jordi Alba:

Probably Alba is the player that has improved the most over the past year. A converted left back, Alba has become a key part of Unai Emery’s formation and he seems to improving after every game. Jordi Alba’s incredible performance over the past year has earned him a well deserved call up to the national team and has featured in 2 games since, most notably a friendly against England. Alba is now expected to to feature in the European Championship next summer if he continues his impressive form. Alba has also attracted the interest of several big clubs during the past year, including Barcelona and Valencia will be doing everything they can to keep the player.

Adil Rami:

Valencia haven’t had a better defender than the French international since the exit of Roberto Ayala from the team. Adil has only joined the team last summer but proved to be vital in the team after making an instant impact in the team, forming a partnership with young Spanish defender Victor Ruiz and keeping the likes of Ricardo Costa and Angel Dealbert out of the squad. Rami initially signed for Valencia in January but was loaned to his former club Lille who he won both the French league and Cup with.

You could if you want vote for the likes of Juan Mata who left the club

    • Jafar

Mata was very important to us but he was only here for half of 2011 and therefore he has a huge disadvantage in comparison to player that are still here. And for that reason I voted for Soldado because he has been by far the most important and the best player in 2011 for us, in my opinion.

  • Futrell

Soldado is the only choice IMO. Yes, he has missed some chances here and there, but he has been our best goal scorer. Hopefully he keeps getting better and we don’t have to sell him to cut the debt like we have had to do with so many others. AMUNT!

    • the original jd

      soldado is a striker- hello!
what do you expect? its his job to score. forget goals and look at overall performance, workrate, commitment, etc….for me its between jordi and tino.

      • Paco

        Exactly. Well said

  • Jeeshan

I am the only person who has voted for Rami. Soldado has been brilliant. But one major difference between Valencia this season and last season is the defence. We ve always had quality strikers. But this is the first time since Ayala’s departure we have a stable defence-and its because of none other than a man called Adil Rami.

  • ValenciaFan2004

Without Jordi Alba Soldado would not have so many chances to Score.

No doubt for me: Roberto Soldado. You can say what you want about him being a striker and just doing his job (scoring goals), but you got to be honest. There are only a few strikers in Europe that has his qualities. He knows exactly where to be in every attack, always in the right place and he has amazing finishing. One of the best strikers in Europe, and he’s playing in Mestalla AND he is a Valencian. And I’m proud of him!

Banega is a key player in our team and he had an amazing first half, just as Tino Costa. I’m also a huge fan of Jordi Alba! He works hard, he improves, he learns… Please, keep him as long as possible. And I also want to mention Adil Rami and Jérémy Mathieu. Definitely the last one is very underrated. The way he has improved since he arrived is amazing. He always works hard, shows passion for the club and is a great guy overall. The partnership Jordi Alba-Mathieu works very well, and I’m glad if I see those two play.

Adil Rami is the best CB I’ve seen since Roberto Ayala. He still has to improve on his passing, but he is a great defender and a great person. ¡Amunt Valencia!

as usual defenders never get the recognition they deserve, soldado has been great n doing his job but the fact is our defence has been or weakness for like 3 years and now its not, finishing is our issue now. IMO Adil Rami is the best defender in Spain

    • Martijn

He might get it next year, but for now i perfer to pick a player that actually was in Valencia all season long :)

  • CalD

I voted Jordi Alba because he is the one who has improved the most IMO. Rami has only been here half the year, Soldado goes through dry patches where he doesn’t perform, Banega wasn’t his best last season and Tino would be my second choice but Alba has helped us a lot in defence, without even having to spend money on a LB!

  • Cile

Banega. With him the team can control Barcelona. Without him they play long balls and rely on Tino’s free kicks.

  • Chris VCF

i voted goldado, banega would be top if he was more consistent, rami would probably be top if hed been here all year! alba not far off either :D

  • akaki-rock

    MATA

  • the original jd

in football every body spends so much time focusing on who is scoring goals. A lot of time several deserving players get over looked. When was the last time a non- offensive player (be it midfielder, defender, or goal keeper) win the ball d’or? Yes soldado is scoring goals and had some monster games but he was not the most consistent player in Valencia this year. In my opinion it is quite hard to say any valencian players mentioned above was the best player-hands-downs because they have all had thier moments…of greatness and weakness. I Adil Rami has made strong impact in the Back, Ever has has magical moments since he completely assumed creativity with Mata’s departure. Soldado was a raging beast earlier in the season and at different period during the season…but young jordi alba has been consitenly great on both sides of the pitch since the season started. He isn’t a natural left back but has adapted superbly. Combined with Mathieu Valencia has one of the most lethal left flanks in la liga…My vote goes to Jordi. Tino carried us during the 2nd part of last season. His work rate it 2nd to none..but for me jordi has been a revelation…

  • emilio

ADIL RAMI!!!! THE ONLY ONE. STOP LOOKING AT THE SCORES FOR GOALDADO.

  • bcc

    Guiata

  • Stepo

Jordi Alba because he has vastly improved so much that Vicente Del Bosque has called him up for the Spanish national team. He has & is still working extremely hard converting himself into a left-back. Well done Jordi Alba althogh Soldado, Banega, Rami & the rest have played their part this year.

  • wale

Sophiane feghouli is the most promising young player who i think will  rise astronomicaly if he continue at the fantastic rate of his. Guiata is the safest pair of hands btwn valencia;s goal post since canizares.2011 best player is Ever Banega.his wonderful creative play was what valencia lacked in the defeat by chelsea in the champions league otherwise it certainly would be a different story enirely. AMUNT VALENCIA @ LAGOS NIGERIA

  • Richie

Seriously, this voting system was not designed in a good way. Everyone knows Soldado was the best. We should have been voting for the second best player of the year here.

Its my opinion anyway. Don’t take it too serious.
