Valencia faced a very tough test on their first appearance in...
Who’s been your favorite ?
As we approach the end of 2011, a year which could prove to be the beginning a bridge to success for Valencia, VCF Central are switching the microphone to you, the fans of this great club. Who do you think should be the best player of the season? Here are VCF Central’s candidates:
The 23 year old midfielder has proved to be key part of Emery’s short passing game. He seems to the artist in every Valencia movement in attack. The Argentine has had several key moments with Valencia during the past year including an impressive first half of the year which earned him a place in the starting 11 of the national squad and call up to last summers Copa America. During the second half of the year Banega’s participation has been restricted to just 15 games in all competitions with Valencia where he managed to get one assist and a goal in the team’s last game against Cadiz.
Tino Costa:
No doubt one of Valencia’s best players in the first half of the year if not the best. Since joining the club in the summer of 2010 the player has scored a lot of beautiful goals that will be remembered by Valencia fans. Probably his best goals in 2011 are against Real Sociedad and Levante which saw him that there aren’t many better free kick takers in the world than him. Tino Costa however has had a tougher season this season, spending most of the preseason on the sideline which limited the games he played in. He did however, managed 10 appearances in which he managed a goal and 3 assists.
Since joining Valencia in 2010 to replace David Villa’s who departed to Barcelona that summer, Soldado didn’t really have a huge impact to the team. But it was in 2011 in which he proved that he’s one of the most lethal strikers in the continent. The player has managed to score 32 goals throughout the year including 2 hattrikcs and one super hattrick (4 goals). Also, Soldado managed to bag in 10 goals in 6 games between the 2nd of April and the 7th of May. Soldado is yet to feature with Spanish national team as a Valencia player, but in the current form he’s in this is something that is expected to happen in the near future.
Jordi Alba:
Probably Alba is the player that has improved the most over the past year. A converted left back, Alba has become a key part of Unai Emery’s formation and he seems to improving after every game. Jordi Alba’s incredible performance over the past year has earned him a well deserved call up to the national team and has featured in 2 games since, most notably a friendly against England. Alba is now expected to to feature in the European Championship next summer if he continues his impressive form. Alba has also attracted the interest of several big clubs during the past year, including Barcelona and Valencia will be doing everything they can to keep the player.

Adil Rami:
Valencia haven’t had a better defender than the French international since the exit of Roberto Ayala from the team. Adil has only joined the team last summer but proved to be vital in the team after making an instant impact in the team, forming a partnership with young Spanish defender Victor Ruiz and keeping the likes of Ricardo Costa and Angel Dealbert out of the squad. Rami initially signed for Valencia in January but was loaned to his former club Lille who he won both the French league and Cup with.
